TAD - Wood Goblins

Tad (often styled as TAD) was an American grunge band from Seattle, Washington, formed in 1988 by Tad Doyle. Among the first of the many bands which came out of Seattle in the grunge era, Tad was notable for the fact that its music was inspired far more by 1970s metal (much like Alice in Chains and Soundgarden) than the punk which influenced many other grunge bands. Although their commercial success was limited, their music is still highly regarded amongst grunge fans.

DC3 - We feel the sky

DC3 (also known as D.C. 3) was an American rock and roll band formed by singer, songwriter and guitarist Dez Cadena in 1983 and active until 1988. Cadena had been a member of California-based punk rock group Black Flag from about 1980 to 1983, first as singer, then as rhythm guitarist. 1982 was the beginning of a record distribution problem that severely curtailed Black Flag's activities. During this hiatus, Cadena formed DC3 with keyboardist Paul Roessler (formerly of LA's infamous Screamers), and drummer Jeff Dahl. Paul's younger sister, Kira, also practiced with the band early on before joining Black Flag. Their debut album, This Is The Dream, was released in 1985 on SST Records and featured a major Black Sabbath influence with very little of the hardcore or punk stylings of Black Flag. The album is particularly notable for the songs "I Believe It" and "Ain't No Time Here Now", which were originally written and played live by Black Flag and are also present on that band's The Complete 1982 Demos Plus More as "Yes I Know" (identical lyrics to the DC3 version) and "What Can You Believe" (different lyrics than the DC3 version, but nearly identical music).

Blue Öyster Cult was the thinking man's heavy metal group. Put together on a college campus by a couple of rock critics, it maintained a close relationship with a series of literary figures (often in the fields of science fiction and horror), including Eric Von Lustbader, Patti Smith, Michael Moorcock, and Stephen King, while turning out some of the more listenable metal music of the early and mid-'70s. The band that became Blue Öyster Cult was organized in 1967 at Stony Brook College on Long Island by students (and later rock critics) Sandy Pearlman and Richard Meltzer as Soft White Underbelly and consisted of Andy Winters (bass), Donald "Buck Dharma" Roeser (guitar), John Wiesenthal -- quickly replaced by Allen Lanier -- (keyboards), and Albert Bouchard (drums), with Pearlman managing and Pearlman and Meltzer writing songs. Initially without a lead singer, they added Les Bronstein on vocals. This quintet signed to Elektra Records and recorded an album that was never released. They then dropped Bronstein and replaced him with their road manager, Eric Bloom, as the band's name was changed to Oaxaca. A second Elektra album also went unreleased, though a single was issued under the name the Stalk-Forrest Group. Cut loose by Elektra, they changed their name again, to Blue Öyster Cult, and signed to Columbia Records in late 1971, by which time Winters had been replaced by Albert Bouchard's brother Joe. Blue Öyster Cult, their debut album, was released in January 1972 and made the lower reaches of the charts.

Bulbous Creation - End Of The page

A Kansas-based rock band whose music was a downbeat mixture of psychedelia and hard rock, Bulbous Creation would have to wait until many years after they broke up to receive any recognition outside their home town. Bulbous Creation were formed by bassist Jim "Bugs" Wine and guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter Paul Parkinson, both of whom grew up in Prairie Village, Kansas, a town about ten miles from Kansas City. Parkinson took up guitar in his early teens and played in a handful of ad-hoc groups during his high-school days, most featuring his good friend Wine on bass. In 1966 Wine went into the military, and he settled in Kansas City, Kansas upon his return three years later. Wine was keen on starting a band, and a newspaper ad brought him together with a talented guitarist, Alan Lewis, and a capable drummer, Chuck Horstmann. However, the band needed a boost with its songwriting, and after Wine ran into his old friend Parkinson, he was soon invited to join the group and contribute lyrics and vocals. (A fifth member, keyboard player Lynne Wenner, occasionally joined the group on-stage.) Lewis was keen on naming the new band Bulbous, which didn't sit well with his bandmates, but when someone suggested tagging Creation onto the moniker, the group agreed on the new name.

Satan's Satyrs - Germanium Bomb

Staggering out of Herndon, Virginia, like a six-legged razorback high on blood and gas fumes, Satan’s Satyrs ply the kind of doom-fuzz domination and full-tilt horror boogie that exists about a million miles outside the realm of giving a fuck. Teenage mastermind Clayton Burgess recorded and played every instrument on the band’s 2012 debut, Wild Beyond Belief!, while he was still in high school. Inspired by Blue Cheer, Electric Wizard and a slew of sleazy 60s/70s cult biker flicks like The Glory Stompers, Werewolves On Wheels and Satan’s Sadists, Burgess eventually found kindred spirits in guitarist Jarrett Nettnin and drummer Stephen Fairchild, who joined the SS fold in time to appear on last year’s Hammond-drenched brain-boiler Die Screaming.

Saxon - Denim And Leather

[...]This album is packed full of brilliant guitar work, and the solos are some of the greatest you will ever find in metal. They are fast, rapid fire solos, that slam you in the face and don't stop pounding away until the album is over and you are left a quivering wreck. Their quest is simple, to riff and solo until your eyes begin to bleed and fall out of your skull. And they pull it off amazingly, they sound fresh and stylish the whole way through, there are no boring riffs to be found on this album. There are many great things about this album. Everything is done brilliantly and there is not a single note out of place. The drumming remains amazing from track to track, with Gill beating away at a brilliant exhausting pace. Dawson also keeps up toe to toe, pounding away with his four string. There are no ballads or anything less than 100% metal. Freeways - One for the Road

Outstanding hard rock from Canada. Freeways take influence from the hard sounds of the mid to late 1970s, showing a nod to bands like Thin Lizzy, UFO, and Blue Oyster Cult. However is is no tribute act, on Cold Front the band has already developed a strong sound of their own, and with a debut release this strong the band has a promising future!

Scorpions - Hell Cat

Doesn’t everyone just love Scorpions? I don’t mean the insectile beasts that sting with their ferocious bite or the Spider-Man villain, but rather the great 70s and 80s rock group that rocked the world with their smooth hooks and catchy tunes. People mostly know them for their later material where they sold their souls for money, but what those poor fools are missing out on is the brilliance of the material when Uli Jon Roth was handling the lead guitar duties. And as such…Virgin Killer.

Terrible Feelings - I Don't Even Know You

Someone described the music as “Loud, dark, therapeutic, and rough around the edges” and Anton once said he played “black angst-ridden power pop.” Both quotes sum up Terrible Feelings pretty well. Place their sound somewhere in the wastelands between Wipers, Redd Kross, Ebba Grön and Murder City Devils.Terrible Feelings from Malmö, Sweden have existed since fall 2009.They sprung out of late parties, punk rock, pop, and friendship. The band has to date released three 7”s and one full length album. They’ve embarked on no less than five full European tours and two US tours (one on each coast). They’ve shared stages with bands such as Jeff the Brotherhood, White Lung, Imperial State Electric, Fucked Up, The Raveonettes, and The Babies; and were handpicked by none other than Refused as support in both Europe and Sweden on their final tour.

Radio Birdman - Descent Into the Maelstrom

Radio Birdman and this album in particular are generally considered to be the beginnings of the Australian underground punk movement. However, the band was not only influenced by common punk precursors The Stooges and MC5, but also early Blue Oyster Cult and even the surf bands of the 1960s.
